Mediocre (inks)

Last week I was feeling pretty upset with the quality of my work lately. I felt, and still feel, that the Elephant Hands piece is the best thing I've done this summer and I wanted, and still want, to change that desperately. So from that desire, from that dissatisfaction in myself, I birthed this piece which I'm calling Mediocre which depicts how I felt about my work of late. I have some copic markers coming in the mail as a gift from my aunt which I will use to color this. It's one of the biggest drawings I've ever done, 14 X 34 Bristol. Anywho, these are the inks for it, they're subject to change once I throw the color on, so we'll see what happens with that. I'm pretty excited.

Also I would like to say Thank you to all you who take the time to look over my blog. I would especially like to say thank to Ricardo Alves who commented with kind words on one of my pieces. I would have simply replied to your comment, and sooner too, but for some odd reason my computer doesn't allow me to do that, so I figured I'd give you a shout out on one of my posts. Thanks again to everyone who looks at my works. Post a comment if you want to get in contact with me, I need to figure out how to add a contact info widget to my blog, but until then, feel free to lay your thoughts on me, I'm all ears and eager to learn!!

This week's SketchDump

Here's a character for an animation I'm planning to do very soon

These are random sketches from class. I drew the one with Batman on it in the morning before I saw the midnight release of the Dark Knight Rises. Great movie.  My sincere condolences to those affected by the shooting in Colorado. I pray for you and your families.
My friend's brother playing video games in green, a goofy sketch for a web comic idea my friend and I are throwing around
Here's a potential character for that web comic idea. Just playing with the copic marker and Sharpie pen combination to see what kind of potential it has. So far I like.

Ashyman WIP

A friend of mine from church is a fairly decent up and coming rapper, in time I'm sure he'll be household name haha. but for serious, he's got some skill, give him a listen, He's called

Ashyman, <<this is a link to his soundcloud page.

He asked me to draw a cover for him and I was like yeah sure. So this is a WIP that I need to finish by Sunday. I'll upload the finished product as well.

Class Notes

I take extensive notes in English class, I thought you all might like to see what I've learned thus far

This Week's SketchDump

Blergity Blergen I was productive this week, but I haven't made anything awesome in a while. I hope to change that this weekend. Anywho, These are drawings of my friend who was kind enough to take time out of her night to model for me.

And this last one is some random sketches for a web comic my friend and I are in the process of coming up with haha

These are two gross paintings I did. Experimenting with the color and technique is my excuse iGuess ho humm

Bookmark Painting

I was recently inspired by a phenomenal painter by the name of Ashley Wood to do a series of Acrylic Paintings that would experiment with color and brushes as well as what I do the drawings on. Needless to say I am very excited to see what new creations will come of this new change of direction. Dear Ashley, if you read this, know that you're fantastic, thanks for the inspiration and please keep drawing and painting.

Samurai Ink Sketch

This is a few days old, just trying to get better at my inking while covering a broader range or subjects. I don't like that much, I wasn't gonna upload it, but I haven't done anything worth anything all week with the slight exception of this.

HELLBOY!!

So my friend NTL told me to draw Hellboy at around 10:30 this morning. So I did. I finished this at about 1:39pm. I want to color it with copics mainly to help clean up the messiness of it, but inks should be able to stand on their own. To that end I have a lot of work to do, but I'm surprised I did this in 3 hours. I spose that would explain why is so sloppy tho.... Oh well on to the next.

15 Minutes!!!

I probably shouldn't feel as elated as I suddenly do, but I'm pretty proud of this 15 minute drawing, I did a pencil first and then inked over it with a brush. I'm gonna do a couple of these a day I think. whenever I'm workin on a project and it starts to get stale, I'll break it up with a quick ink sketch as fast as I can. Side note, I'm noticing that every artist around me is going super hard in their work so I've gotta jump on that train. I'm so inspired.

Landscape By River

over lunch today, I asked my dad to give me a topic to draw, he said landscape by river, so after we ate, I drew this in 20 mins with a faber castel brush pen.  it's meh at best but for a quick sketch straight to ink, I'm decently satisfied

Figure Skating

I'm planning to do a skateboarding piece as well as a few skateboard designs, so I've been practicing from youtube video stills.

Face Front

I started drawing this dude at a memorial service for my parent's deceased college classmates ( I started BEFORE the service started). Before I could finish, two other people sat between me and this guy I was drawing and the service had started, so I left it as is and I like it better that way. Kinda want to color it tho.

35 Minute Man

I was at an outdoor concert under the shade of tree and drew the guy sitting next to me, I figured he'd be there long enough to get a good drawing in. A lot can happen in 35 minutes haha

The Ballad Of the Apple - Day 1

I'm painting this apple over the course of seven days, I'm gonna do stuff to each day to make the paintings more interesting for me. This first one is Gouache. I'm running low on goauche, so I'll mix media more and more drastically as the series continues. It's all about the Axperimental Ebstractions haha.

Life Still

Sat in the back of sunday school  and drew the scene. Axperimenting with the color. This was the first sunday after I got back from school. I'm getting everything up to date since I've been terrible at uploading things lately

Handy Elephant

I drew this sketch in the back of my friend's car earlier in the summer, I liked it so much that I planned to do a finished piece of it.

Then, last week there was an animal planet show about elephants so I took the opportunity to do some blind contours and increase my elephant drawing skills.

And I just now finished coloring the piece. It of course came out less cool than I'd hoped, but I'm positive my skills will increase as time goes on.

Axperimental Ebstractions 1

^This is a pen and sharpie exercise. The red head took me the most amount of time and sucks worst which I found surprising. the middle head underneath it started as a blind contour which I abstracted into the cartoony character you see.
^These people were drawn at a Costco's while my parents shopped around in pen, and colored later with colored pencil.
I drew aspects from figures that interested me. Trying something different than what I normally do.
This is a creature I drew today when a friend of mine described his Ouija board experience to me. Kinda represents the vibe his story gave me

Axperimental Ebstractions is kinda my Daily sketch thing, I want to mess with compositions and forms and create things and colors that I haven't thought of doing yet.

Throwbacks: Otomo 2 the Future

The assignment for this page (from spring of 2011) was to redo a scene from a movie in the style of another artist. I got Katsuhiro Otomo (one of my biggest artistic inspirations) and Back To The Future. I'll have more and better page work coming as the summer goes on, now that my time can be fully devoted to my personal projects, I'm going to let loose with a bunch of new works and experimental things. Should be fun haha.

Also, I don't want to make a separate post for this, so I'm saying here that I have a lot of older work on my DeviantArt account PKDarthN8R if you were interested in seeing how much I sucked a few years ago.

Throwbacks: Collage

This is a painting I did back in 2009 in acrylic. The assignment was to take ripped up pieces of magazines, make a composition out of them and paint it. One of my better paintings to this day, but that will soon change
This is my last oil painting of Spring quarter, I couldn't quite get into to this one as much as I'd hoped, but it too has some redeeming qualities. More to come for sure.
This is my 3rd oil painting, couldn't spend as much time on it as I'd hoped, but there are some redeeming qualities to it.

Hopi Hangout

For class, we had to design a character's props and an environment for them to exist in. So here's my enviornment, just a back room decked with Hopi decorations. The perspective on the door is wrong, but I didn't have time to fix it/ didn't notice it until critic. My future illustrations will have more success, of that I am confident. =)

First Copic Piece

This is some garbage that I put together for an Art History class back in Fall of 2011, it was my first time using copics, so bleh. The idea of the assignment was to make a piece derivative of an artist of your selection (from a pool the teacher selected.) My artist was Roy Lichtenstein, so I basically took his piece "Explosion" and threw it in the fore, back, and middle ground of the image along with one of my characters. This is up mainly to remind viewers and my future self that you gotta start somewhere. Carry on!!

Oil painting

Here's the second oil painting I did two weeks ago for class. I'm not uploading the first as yet because it's worse than the Acrylic painting. But yeah, still a lot of things wrong, but progress. I'm in the process of completing my third oil and that will be uploaded as soon as it's dry.

Acrylic Painting

This turned out horribly, it's here so that you can see the progress I made since the beginning of the quarter, I made this waaaaay back in April before I started doing those gouache paintings for class.

Primitive Renders

Figures we had to render for class today. Decided to upload because I really like the quality of the last few ones.
